Long Island Success Stories |

It was around the turn of the decade in 1980 when David Gussin was hard at work at a Queens bagel store. Unsatisfied with the status quo, David created the Everything Bagel from remnants of the standard offerings of poppy, sesame, onion, garlic and salt. Before long, the Everything Bagel was everywhere. Now David is hard at work at "516 Ads dot com", a company he founded in 2007 that specializes in Long Island internet advertising and community networking. Like the Everything bagel, David is also ubiquitous on Long Island where he provides local business with affordable advertising and promotion. Among his numerous internet projects, Dave created www.LongIslandInternetDirectory.com. Although the website was successful in helping his LI customers, the URL was quite a mouthful. David decided to take advantage of dot LI, and the Long Island Internet Directory can now also be found at a much simpler address, www.Directory.LI.
"Using Directory dot LI makes it so much simpler for me to let people know about the website" explains David, "plus people are more inclined to remember the address." Having a simple dot LI web address like Directory dot LI has many advantages. It is easy to spell, simple to remember and lets visitors understand the website's purpose even before they arrive. Long Island Dot is proud to be a part of Mr. Gussin's charter to provide the Long Island community with the pertinent information they need, while supplying Long Island business with creative and affordable advertising strategies. From David's viewpoint: "Nothing says Long Island, like dot LI." |

"Nobody could find me on the internet" lamented Stephen Zito, president of Stargate Electronics, a factory authorized service center for over a dozen major electronic brands. "With my dot LI website, the difference is night and day."
"Now, more than 75% of my customers come from the internet. I know, because we log every call and ask our customers how they found us." In fact, Stargate's website has been so effective that Mr. Zito was able to dramatically scale back his print-media promotion, saving over 50% in yearly advertising costs. Mr. Zito's business continues to grow and in June of 2008, he moved Stargate to a larger location with 50% more square footage. The Stargate Electronics website (www.Repair.LI) is a good example of how a simple and inexpensive internet presence can yield big results. The website is essentially a single page with a link to a flyer with directions. In this case, that is all that was needed to effectively attract customers. Although simple and straightforward, the content was carefully created so internet users could easily find the website and quickly determine how Stargate can provide the services they need. Plus using a simple and memorable web address means that customers will remember the website. After all, for a repair business on Long Island, no domain could be better than "Repair dot LI". If you need service for your flat screen HDTV, computer or other electronic appliance, Stephen and his crew would be happy to help. |

Here's a great example of how transitioning from dot com to dot LI can help a Long Island business. Robert Wallace, owner of A-All Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, selected a dot com URL for his old website. Being that dot com is used globally since the dawn of the internet, there weren't any good domains left for Robert. He settled on "a-allphac.com" - a name that he soon regretted because it was too difficult for customers to remember. Robert considered other dot com domains, but all had similar problems - they were too difficult to remember.
Mr. Wallace approach Long Island Dot with this dilemma back in 2004, and we offered him the perfect solution: a revamped website with the domain www.Plumber.LI. Now the memorability problem is history. "Before using dot LI, no one would remember my business, but this is no longer a problem," says Robert. For a Long Island Plumber, there simply is no better web address than www.Plumber.LI - it's memorable, easy to spell and it brands the business with LI. Actually, Mr. Wallace has taken the dot LI concept a step further. He actually has three dot LI domains for his website, www.Plumber.LI, www.Plumbing.LI and www.AirConditioning.LI. "Just in case people thought of us in terms of Plumbing rather than Plumber, I felt is was important to add www.Plumbing.LI". Robert's hunch was right, about 9% of his traffic comes from Plumbing dot LI. Those are leads that he may have otherwise missed. Robert's decision to also add www.AirConditioning.LI made good sense, because his business is affected by season. In the summer months, the Air Conditioning portion picks up substantially, and the plumbing portion falls off. The opposite occurs in the winter months. So that his customers can easily find his business year round, he uses all three dot LI domains. |

The Long Island Section of the IEEE has a rich history dating back to 1947. Globally the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has over 375,000 members in more than 160 countries. Moreover, the IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. The IEEE LI Section, which caters to the needs of Long Island technical professionals, needed a memorable URL for their award-winning website. They found the ideal domain with dot LI. |

When first introduced to dot LI, Seth Sultan was leery to say the least. He was familiar with the usual extensions (com, net, org, us and tv) but dot LI seamed like unchartered waters.
Seth started The Sultan Agency back in 1979, selling all types of business and personal insurance including life, health, disability, casualty and property. When asked to describe his Seaford business, Seth simply replies "We insure" and he wanted to use this phrase as his web address. Since it was not available with the dot com extension, Seth decided to give dot LI a try. "I was very skeptical about dot LI. I was afraid that people would not feel comfortable with it, but instead people found that it made sense for Long Island. Now I love it," reflects Seth Sultan. He loves it so much that he added additional dot LI URLs to his internet presence. Much of Seth's LI insurance business is through Allstate, and The Sultan Agency uses www.Allstate.LI to direct customers to their webpage on the main Allstate corporate website. When The Sultan Agency expanded to provide mortgage services, they decided on www.WeMortgage.LI for the URL. The Sultan Agency is a three-time winner with dot LI! |
